Driver Critically Hurt In 3-Car Crash On Jersey Shore: Police

An 83-year-old man from Lakewood is in critical condition after a three-car collision in Ocean County, authorities said.

The crash occurred at 3:25 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 on Route 70 at Morris Avenue in Brick Township, police said.

Vincent C. Grillo suffered multiple internal injuries, a cut to the head and unconsciousness as a result of the crash, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Grillo was traveling east on Route 70, near Olden Street when he struck the concrete divider. As he was approaching the intersection of Morris Avenue, he purportedly ran through the red light, police said.

Grillo's Kia Sportage struck a car that was stopped at the red light.. That car struck a third vehicle, also stopped at the red light.

Grillo was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition on Friday, May 6, police said.

A second driver complained of chest pain and was treated at the scene. The third driver was not hurt.

The accident is under investigation by Ptl. Daniel Fogarty #211 of the Brick Township Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has information related to it, is asked to call Fogarty at 732-262-1141.
